A 14-year-old boy in Michigan fell 25 to 30 feet (7.6 to 9.1 meters) during a police chase in a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 that was allegedly stolen from Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan.
Body camera footage obtained from Fox, show an officer approaching the vehicle with a gun drawn and ordering the boy out of the vehicle. According to police, the 14-year-old got out of the passenger side of the vehicle, jumped over a retaining wall on the side of the freeway and fell into an empty yard below.
The boy was so seriously injured that he lost his ability to work, and he was taken to the hospital. Police Brownstown said in a statement that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
The incident occurred on October 12, 2022, shortly after 7:00 p.m., after three Mustangs were reported stolen from the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Brownstown police say they found three Shelby GT500 Mustangstraveling north on I-75.
They claim that they tried to stop the cars, but no one did. Officers were able to track down one of the vehicles, which appeared to have run out of fuel. After a series of thefts from Ford assembly plant in Flat Rockand others in the Detroit area, automakers have reportedly begun limiting the amount of fuel they put in vehicles to discourage thieves.
According to an officer who spoke to Fox 2 Detroit, the sticker price Mustang Shelby GT500 what they recovered was $113,000. Unfortunately, such cases are unusual.
Ford has been a particular target of thieves recently, with reports of similar thefts only appearing in September. In that case, more than a dozen vehicles were stolen, including a Mustang and a Jeep Wagoneer from the nearby Stellantis plant.
