• The Drako Dragon is the Californian startup’s second car after the GTE electric sedan that was introduced in 2019.
  • The Dragon has four electric motors with a combined output of 2,000 horsepower, and the Drako claims a top speed of 200 mph and a quarter-mile time of 9.0 seconds.
  • Behind the gullwing doors is a leather interior and a massive 17.1-inch touchscreen. The Dragon will cost $290,000 when it goes on sale in 2026.

Drako Motors, a startup from San Jose, California, is the first the Dragon SUV was teased this summer, showing off its dramatic gull-wing doors and announcing its wild 2,000 horsepower. The dragon is Draco’s second machine after all Fisker Karma-based GTE electric sedanand the electric super SUV is now unveiled in full, showcasing a sporty design and touting otherworldly performance figures.

The dragon looks like An extreme racer mixed with a Lotus Eletre due to its aggressive stance and sloping coupe-like roofline. The trapezoidal shape of the grille includes both cooling vents and a front wing that increases range and provides downforce, working in conjunction with struts that extend from the roof to the rear corners. The Dragon’s slim LED headlights and taillights are joined by “ultra-bright rally lights built into its roof.” The body panels are made from sustainable natural fiber composite materials, reducing the use of plastic by 70 percent, and wrap around the carbon fiber chassis.

The gull-wing doors are eye-catching, but also allow Drako to remove the center pillar, making it easier to get in and out of the rear seats. The cabin is dominated by a 17.1-inch touchscreen with a smaller digital instrument cluster behind the flat-bottomed steering wheel that houses all of the Dragon’s physical buttons. Dragon also uses cameras instead of mirrors, displaying the view on small screens built into the dashboard. Screens for rear passengers are mounted on the leather and carbon fiber front seats, and overhead is a panoramic glass roof.

Like the GTE, the Dragon uses four electric motors, one driving each wheel. Drako claims that with 2,000 horsepower and all-wheel drive, the Dragon can go from zero to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, run the quarter mile in 9 seconds, and reach a top speed of over 200 mph. With a curb weight of 4,969 pounds, 10-piston front calipers and six-piston rear calipers clamp down on carbon-ceramic brake rotors to slow the Dragon down. Drako also claims the Dragon’s weight distribution is 50/50, and the SUV measures 199 inches long and 81 inches wide, which is slightly shorter and wider than the Lamborghini Urus. An adaptive suspension allows the Dragon to sit 6.4 inches above the ground, but can rise to provide 12.4 inches of ground clearance in Ground mode.

The battery pack is apparently designed and manufactured in-house, although Drako doesn’t specify how big the package is. Still, it should be pretty big, as Drako claims a range of 420 miles, and with a top charging speed of 500kW, Drako says the Dragon can charge up to 80 percent in 10 minutes. Dragon also uses a single operating system to control all of the vehicle’s functions, from infotainment to driver assistance systems to battery management and traction control, which allows the tank turns like a Rivian R1T.

Draco says the Dragon will be built in the United States, with plans to eventually build 5,000 units each year. Deliveries are due to begin in 2026, prices for the Dragon start at $290,000, and reservations are now open.
