HAMMOND — A longtime member of Gary’s Sin City Disciples has pleaded guilty to federal drug and racketeering charges.

Michael Castro Rivera, 64, of Gary, appeared Thursday before U.S. District Court Judge Joshua P. Kolar during a plea hearing.

Rivera, also known as “Puerto Rican Mike”, told the court that he was guilty of possession of cocaine, marijuana and heroin, as well as conspiracy to commit a racket that involved drug trafficking.

A federal grand jury indicted Rivera and 15 other alleged Sin City Deciples on October 21.

Rivera is described in the indictment as a veteran of the club, which was formed in 1967 and maintained a clubhouse in the 1300 block of Virginia Street in downtown Gary.
