The Alfa livery on his C42 F1 is designed to celebrate the release of the Alfa Romeo Tonale electric SUV.
As part of the change, the engine cover and side panels will be painted green for the weekend in Baku, turning the livery into an Italian tricolor flag.
In a statement, the Hinwil team said that “green is a shade of Montreal’s green hue used to launch Tonale, but also a strong link to Alfa Romeo’s identity to move to a more responsible and sustainable mobility concept” as a tribute to its Italian identity.
The livery also has the branded Tonale headlights on the C42 engine cover.
Tonale, which will appear in European showrooms this weekend, is the first electrified SUV of the Italian brand C-SUV or crossover.
Team pilots Walter Botas and Zhou Guanyu tested the car earlier this year in the Italian Alps.

The Sauber team, which works as Alfa Romeo in Formula 1, has always argued that its ties to the manufacturer have been more than an exercise for the brand. Previously, the Swiss team was actively involved in the development of road cars Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm in 2020.
Speaking about ties last year, team boss Fred Wasser said: “Even if it’s not in the world of Formula 1, I think it’s important to build strong cooperation between the two companies.
“The automotive side is part of the partnership, and it’s very important if you want to develop a partnership between a brand and a Formula One team.”
Through its teammate JigSpace, Alfa will use augmented reality to offer fans an idea of what it calls an “interactive 3D version” of disposable livery.
