There’s no doubt that many in the car enthusiast community love speed and the occasional sport a questionable opinion. New video of a St. Louis street racing crash shows just how tragic the consequences can be when a person is behind the wheel of a street race. The clip shows an accident that killed one innocent bystander and injured four others.

Authorities said the crash happened around 5 p.m. Monday in north St. Louis on Kingshighway Boulevard. The whole event was recorded by a camera near the intersection. From what we can see, two Ford Mustangs enter the left side of the frame after the silver Chevrolet Cobalt drove to the intersection.

The white Mustang manages to avoid the Chevrolet, moving right behind it. The red Mustang crashes straight into the driver’s side of the Cobalt. The small four-door car spins and flips violently before coming to rest on its side. The red Mustang apparently collided with two other vehicles on the road before coming to a stop.

All four passengers of “Cobalt” were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver did not survive. The driver of the red Mustang suffered an arm injury and was also taken to the hospital. One of the people in one of the other two cars hit by the Mustang was also taken to the hospital with injuries. The white Mustang drove off and the police have not yet found it.

Simply put, there is no excuse for this behavior on any level. While we do not condone any kind street racing, this was not a situation where two people were on the road alone in the middle of the night with no other people around. These two drivers were apparently driving so fast in traffic that one of them was unable to avoid an accident that killed an innocent person.

According to local news agency KSDK, the accident reconstruction team is still investigating the crash. We hope for a speedy recovery for all the injured.
