Aston Martinwhich has weathered financial turmoil and is in the midst of a transition to electric cars, has appointed a new president in its Americas region for the second time in a year.
British super luxury brand on Tuesday chose McLaren veteran Tony Joseph to take on Adam Chamberlain, who is leaving the company this month. The reason for his departure is not disclosed.
Formerly president of McLaren Group North America, Joseph, 54, was responsible for the introduction and launch of the lightweight, high-performance sports car brand in North America.
Prior to his 13-year tenure at McLaren, Joseph was director of sales at Ferrari North America and also worked at Porsche, helping to manage the German automaker’s dealership network.
Joseph joins Aston at a critical moment. The company is not only switching to electric carsbut it is also preparing its first mid-engine sports cars, which could arrive next year, with deliveries starting in 2024.
As the brand grapples with supply chain issues plaguing the industry as a whole — sales in the Americas region fell 20 percent to 1,152 in the first nine months of this year, although sales rose 13 percent in the third quarter — Aston is dealing with executive turnover. Joseph is the third president of the Americas region since 2020. Laura Schwab left in November of the same year for a brief stint at electric car maker Rivian.
Chamberlain On November 18, he was appointed head of the American region of Aston after working for Mercedes-Benz. And in May, the British automaker replaced its global CEO Tobias Moers with the former Ferrari boss Amedeo Felice.
The company moved its US headquarters from Irvine, California to New York. It’s unclear whether the move prompted Chamberlain to leave.
“With his exceptional track record in the luxury sector and strong reputation and experience in the dealership network, I am delighted to welcome Tony to lead our next phase of growth in the Americas,” Felisa said in a statement. “He joins Aston Martin The Americas at an exciting and transformative time.”
