Car and city: registration of NIO models in May 2022

Shanghai (Gazgu) – In May 2022, the number of new NIO car registrations was 6,474 units, an increase of 6.5% over the previous year and 22.1% over the previous month, according to data compiled by the Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).

In terms of the May registration of local passenger vehicles on new energy (NEPV), NIO ranked 14th among all car brands in China, after its domestic startup competitors Li Auto (5th), HOZON Auto (7th), XPeng (9th) and Leapmotor (13th).

A total of 37,449 vehicles under the NIO brand were registered in January-May, which is 12.4% more than in the same period last year.

The ES6 accounted for 42% of NIO vehicle registrations in May, up 3.3 percentage points from the previous month. The model recorded a jump of 32.6% compared to the month of May registrations, and also achieved growth of 1.4% compared to last year. Among the homemade NEPV models in China, the ES6 ranked 33rd according to registrations in May, up 2 places from last month.

By May of the ES6 registrations Hangzhou, Beijing and Ningbo were among the top three cities, while the volumes of the fourth and fifth were quite close.

The monthly number of EC6 registrations reached 1,565 units in May, down 25% from the same period last year, and is clearly recovering from the previous month.

As for the May EC6 registrations, Ningbo and Hangzhou topped the other cities as the only two with more than 100 units registered, and both were from Zhejiang Province. The list of the 10 best cities of Jinhua (5th) and Wenzhou (8th) also included Zhejiang.

Last month, ES8 registration continued to decline both from year to year and from month to month.

In May, Beijing and Chengdu were ranked in the top 2 cities by the number of monthly ES8 registrations. The Jinhua’s ES8 registrations in May were equal to Ningbo’s registrations.

ET7 increased by 138.9% compared to the month of May, which contributed the most to the overall growth of the NIO compared to April.

Hangzhou registered the largest number of ET7s in May. Both in Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces, three cities were included in the list of the 10 best cities according to ET7 May registrations.
