Two-time Indy 500 winner Takuma Sato was first on the track and on the first lap in Dale Coyne Racing with RWR-Honda reached 232.165 mph, falling to 231.450 mph on his fourth and final lap, setting an average of 231.670 mph.

The only representative of the Penske-Chevrolet team in the 2018 Top 12 winner Will Power twice danced to the turn 1 wall during his run and said that after that the car’s balance was not as good as at yesterday’s qualifying session and he finished for Sato.

Scott Dixon scored 233,907 for his start, and even his third lap was 233,616 before he had to climb in a 2-on-4 turn and lost 1 mile per hour. Yet its average of 233,510 looked extremely strong.

Ramon Grosjean, Andretti Autosport-Honda’s only hope, accelerated a remarkable 233,270 miles per hour, his fastest lap of the week, but lost nearly 2.5 miles per hour on four wheels, though his average was still ahead of Sato and Power.

Marcus Erikins ran three laps at 233 mph to become the second fastest at the time, although for a short time it looked threatened when hometown hero Ed Carpenter showed 234,244 at his starting stage. However, he had to pedal on laps 2 and 4, and his average had just exceeded the 233 barrier.

Ghanaian rookie Jimmy Johnson had a huge moment and recovered well on the first turn on the first lap, but saved his head to be fined 232.9 next time. However, on laps 3 and 4 the speed decreased rapidly and he found himself at the bottom of the speed chart. However, he covered himself in fame by saving the biggest non-crash session.

His teammates Alex Palu and Tony Canaan received averages of 233.3 and 233.0, both comfortably ahead of Felix Rosenquist of Arrow McLaren SP-Chevy, who knocked out 10th.

Rosenquist teammate Pat O’Ward was more than 0.6 seconds faster than Rosenquist, but was only sixth, meaning he was in the transition to Fast 6 when yesterday’s cardboarder Rinus Vicky performed in the second ECR-Chevy. The Dutch youngster accelerated at 234.099 miles per hour in the first match and kept his head and strong pace to deliver a second fastest time, less than 0.1 miles per hour from Dixon.
