- Dodge has unveiled its Electric Charger Daytona concept for the second time, this time painted in Stryker Red and shod with 18-inch carbon fiber wheels.
- Dodge also detailed the Charger Daytona lineup, with a base model labeled 340 making 455 horsepower, and a second-tier model labeled 440 producing 590 horsepower.
- There will also be a top-spec SRT Banshee that uses an 800-volt electrical system, compared to the 400-volt setup on lower models, but power output has yet to be announced.
The Dodge Charger almost dead as we know it, 2023 will be its final model year and a host of special editions beckon the Charger and its Challenger brother outside the door. Electric cars will replace Dodge’s muscle cars, and Dodge has been busy preparing V-8 fans for a gas-free future with Daytona SRT Charger Concept which debuted back in August. Now, Dodge is bringing its massive concept back to the 2022 SEMA show with a few updates, announcing the power of a 400-volt electrical system.
Watch out for Banshee
While Dodge still hasn’t specified how many electric motors are installed in the Daytona Charger SRT, the automaker has now revealed a number of power levels for the concept. The lowest model, called the 340 for kilowatt output, makes 455 horsepower, while the next step up, the 440, makes 590 ponies. However, both models offer two power upgrades, called eStage 1 and 2, as a wireless purchase from Dodge’s Direct Connection division. The base model can be increased to 495 or 535 horsepower, while the second level can be increased to 630 or 670 horsepower. Dodge also says that the most powerful model will be called the SRT Banshee and will have an 800-volt electrical system, but the company is still tight-lipped about the exact power output for this leader.
Dodge also didn’t specify how these models will translate into production, with the Daytona SRT still officially a concept, but given the amount of thought Dodge has already put into it, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar lineup eventually reach customers. The Banshee also offers a Direct Connection upgrade, and upgraded models will have a “crystal” key (Dodge used quotation marks, so we’re guessing it won’t be actual crystal).
The updated concept at SEMA features Stryker Red paint, along with “Stage 2” fender badges and 18-inch carbon fiber wheels shod in 305mm radial tires. Dodge will also use the SEMA show to get feedback from visitors on the concept’s Fratzonic Chambered exhaust system, which Dodge says boosts the electric motor’s roar to a deafening 126 decibels, though we’re guessing that will be toned down for the production car. to noise laws in some states.
