San Francisco: Tesla CEO Elon Musk said Friday that Tesla is not physically recalling 1.1 million vehicles, saying the company is only rolling out a “minor software update” to fix the window jamming problem. Earlier reports cited a recall report Tesla submitted to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as saying the electric car maker had recalled about 1.1 million vehicles to prevent drivers from being pinched by the windows when rolled up. Tesla is recalling about 1.1 million cars to keep Windows from pinching drivers’ fingers.

The windows in these Tesla vehicles would not recognize certain objects when closed, which could lead to “occupant crush injury.” After a follower tweeted that it wasn’t a physical recall, Musk responded: “The terminology is outdated and imprecise. This is a tiny over-the-air software update. As far as we know, there are no victims.”

The electric car maker said it will release an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update for affected vehicles that improves the calibration of the vehicle’s automatic window system behavior, “at no cost to the customer.” Tesla said it is not aware of any warranty claims or injuries due to the window problem.

In its safety recall report filed with NHTSA, Tesla said on Sept. 12 that the company determined that pinch detection and retraction in test results “exceeded the requirements of FMVSS 118, Section 5 (Automatic Reversing Systems) depending on spring force and rod configuration “.

“Accordingly, Tesla has decided to issue a voluntary recall.”

In May, the electric car maker physically recalled 1,30,000 vehicles to fix touchscreen issues caused by an overheating central processing unit (CPU). The company run by Elon Musk recently released an over-the-air (OTA) update to fix the problem on affected vehicles, including the 2022 Model 3 and Y, as well as the 2021 and 2022 Model X and S. The processor overheated caused the car’s touchscreen even completely extinguishes.
