Shanghai (Gazgu) – In March 2022, the automaker announced that monthly sales of GAC AION vehicles, divisions of the GAC Group operating at NEV, had increased by 189% over the same period last year to 20,317 units.
In the first quarter of 2022, GAC AION sold a total of 44,874 vehicles, an increase of 154.3% over the same period last year.
GAC AION recorded monthly sales in excess of 10,000 units for seven consecutive months from July 2021 to January 2022. Its monthly sales fell to 8,526 units in February 2022 due to factors such as the Spring Festival and then reached a record high in March.
The thriving sales growth of GAC AION is largely due to the rapid expansion and renewal of the product line. Last year, it released three new models – AION Y, AION S Plus and AION V Plus – to improve its layouts in major NEV sectors with prices ranging from 100,000 yuan ($ 15,740) to 350,000 yuan ($ 55,105).

At the Auto Guangzhou 2021 exhibition, GAC AION released the AION LX Plus, which boasts the use of a battery based on spongy silicon and anode and a range of up to 1008 km with a CLTC rating. The model officially went on sale in January with four configurations.
With the advent of the AION X Plus, AAC’s GAC products have covered segments such as the compact sedan, compact sedan, and mid-size SUV.
In addition, in January this year went on sale AION S Plus 2022. Compared to the previous version, the updated one comes with fewer finishes but features more intelligence performance.
In March, GAC AION began construction of a test battery production line, which is expected to be commissioned later this year. With a total investment of 336 million yuan ($ 52.9 million), the company will produce batteries using the company’s proprietary battery technology, such as silicon sponge anode technology.
In terms of car production capacity, GAC AION announced on 18 February the completion of a project to expand the production capacity of its first car plant, indicating that its annual capacity has doubled to 200,000 units.
Moreover, the second GAC AION plant is under construction and should start production in December 2022. By this time, the total annual capacity of the automaker will be 400,000 vehicles.
