Route:
A short but stressful stage in which riders have little time to breathe. The overall increase in height compared to the length of the scene is worthy of an alpine stage. The first kilometers from Santena to the foot of the first ascent are the only equal segment of the stage. The route climbs from Rivadora to Superga, occupying two laps of a 36.4 km long circuit that includes climbing the Superga and Cala della Maddalena. The first has a length of 5 km, with gradients of about 10% and 14%. The latter is much shorter; it winds along a narrow road through the woods with a maximum slope of 20%. Then the technical descent leads to the finish.
Final kilometers
After clearing the Colle della Maddalena the route ends up in Valsalice with some challenging sections as it passes through urban areas. Then the gradients increase again, all the way to the Parco del Nobile. The last 4 km goes completely downhill, mostly on narrow roads. The road then opens for the last kilometer in the city of Turin and is leveled for about 700 meters.

The winner of the stage, Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco): “My original plan was to break away today, but it didn’t work. In the last move I had the advantage of no longer racing on the GC, but I came here to win the Jira. This is my sixth victory on stage. This does not compensate for my frustration with the time lost at the Blockhouse. There was a week left, but today was a great effort. I don’t know if I have anything left for the last week. “
Little Rose, Richard Karapaz (INEOS Grenadiers): “It was a short but very difficult stage. I’m thrilled with how it all went. This is the first positive step for the team. Now we will try to protect Maglia Rosa. I didn’t remember I also took it on stage 14 three years ago, but I’m excited to do it again. ”
