As part of the project, the facilities, which combine the research and development and production of intelligent active suspension systems, will be built under the direction of Exquisite Automotive Systems Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of GWM.
The project will be implemented in two stages. The first phase will include a 87,000-square-meter plant and an office and research unit. The second phase will be built for research and development, production and sales of EAS (electronic air suspension) and EDC (electronic damper control) systems.
Upon completion, the project is expected to have an annual production capacity of 1.1 million EAS kits, 2.6 million EDC kits, and an annual production capacity of RMB 10 billion ($ 1.487 billion). In addition, it offers more than 1,000 jobs.
Great Wall Motor has stated that it is one of the first players in China in semi-active and active suspension technology. Once the Wuxi project starts production, it will apply more advanced technology in cars under China’s own brands.
The company added that the Wuxi base will play an important role in GWM’s industrial deployment for intellectualization, acting as the automaker’s R&D and manufacturing headquarters in East China for major premium intelligent parts.
Based on GWM’s strategy for 2025, it plans to invest RMB 100 billion ($ 14.875 billion) in research and development by 2025, offering more environmentally friendly, smart and safe products to global users.
