- this 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck donor shown on SEMA began life this week as a test mule for the Honda Performance Development (HPD) team before Hoonigan’s team got their hands on it.
- Built for the 2022 IndyCar, the 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine is capable of producing approximately 900 horsepower at 12,000 rpm.
- The IndyTruck uses 2021 Acura NSX hubs, wishbones, and carbon-ceramic brakes, along with a custom internal suspension and subframe built in-house at Hoonigan.
A week after the release of Ken Block and the Hoonigan team their Electrikhana video featuring Block kicking tires on the Las Vegas Strip, they’re back in Vegas at the SEMA show with something new. This is something new, a heavily modified 2017 Honda Ridgeline truck with a 2022 IndyCar engine. It’s an aluminum 2.2-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that produces roughly 900 horsepower at 12,000 rpm.
Hoonigan teamed up with Honda Performance Development for the truck with the stated goal of building a truck that can handle anything from local roads to hill climbs. The truck body is a completely custom, one-off construction made from carbon fiber and fiberglass. Looking ahead, the IndyTruck could pass for a regular Ridgeline if it weren’t for that massive front splitter. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear how stupid this build is. Its engine is exposed to the weather, housed under a tall tri-level rear fender with side blades that house the truck’s taillights. How different, all in all, from the Ridgeline you saw yesterday while driving to the grocery store.
The value of the project is, of course, the engine. A mid-mounted twin-turbo V-6 engine fills the space previously occupied by the truck’s body. An open-air location would have made it easier to hear the engine belt belt out its glorious song, and our only complaint is that we didn’t get a chance to hear the thing roll over.
The interior of the truck was completely cleaned and a special dashboard was added. Hoonigan replaced the stock Ridgeline seats with a pair of Recaro carbon racing seats with Willans harnesses attached to the roll cage. The truck is fitted with 20-inch Rotiform LTN forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero rubber.
