Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV confirmed for India debut, launch this year

Jeep Grand Cherokee of the fifth generation will come to the Indian car market on the CBU route and will be one of the most premium offers of Americans.

Jeep India on Monday shared a teaser image of its fifth generation Grand Cherokee SUV and confirmed that the model will join its product portfolio next month. The Jeep Grand Cherokee will be the fourth SUV in the company’s Indian lineup at the time of launch.

Jeep India currently offers compass, Wrangler and recently launched Meridian as a competing three-row SUV Toyota Fortune teller. But the Grand Cherokee is likely to get a lot of attention thanks to its plethora of features and iconic 4×4 capabilities. First released in 1992, the Grand Cherokee is considered the most awarded SUV in recent years, and the latest version of this vehicle debuted a year ago. In the global markets where it is offered, the SUV is also offered with a plug-in hybrid, although it is not yet clear if this will be available in India.

Globally, the Grand Cherokee is offered with a 5.7-liter V8 that produces 357 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque. There’s also a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that offers 375bhp and 637Nm of peak torque. And there is also a 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine, which has 294 hp. and 348 Nm of torque.

The latest Grand Cherokee is largely similar to the previous model, but has a slightly more dominant look with sharper lines. The front grille has been updated, but still retains Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille. The LED headlamps are now sleeker and the LED tail lamps have also been redesigned.

On the inside, the latest version of the Grand Cherokee has increased space, and the three-row version has become longer than the two-row. Additional features such as a 10.25-inch home screen, AppleCarPlay and Android Auto come as standard. There are also entertainment screens for rear passengers, and the car has built-in 4G to support playback from streaming sites. Full leather upholstery and a 19-speaker sound system aim to further enhance the premium experience inside the car.
