Soon the Land Rover Defender will be the third body in the form of a stretched Defender 130.

The new Defender 130, first shown in a teaser photo released on Wednesday, will debut worldwide on May 31 and is confirmed to arrive in the US as a 2023 model.

The Defender 130 boasts seats of up to eight, divided into three rows, with two seats in the first row and three seats in each of the second and third rows.

We know from spy shots of prototypes that the Defender 130 will match the 119-inch wheelbase of the Defender 110. The extra length will come from the stretched rear, which is expected to bring the overall length of the car to just over 200 inches. The Defender 110 also has three rows, but the third row in this body style has only two tiny seats that are only suitable for young children.

If you’re wondering, the numerical elements of the different Defender names go back to the original Defender if they roughly correlate with the length of the wheelbase.

It is unclear what power unit will be offered in the Defender 130, although we know that Land Rover will be released testing a prototype equipped with a V-8. It is possible that the Defender 130 will miss the 2.0-liter 2.0-liter turbocharged Inline-4 entry-level and instead offer only a 3.0-liter 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 and a moderate hybrid transmission and only V-8. In other markets Defender also has a hybrid option that combines a 2.0-liter engine with an electric motor, and we could also see this transmission offered in the Defender 130.

The Defender family expansion will not be completed with the arrival of Defender 130. Land Rover is also testing Hardcore version of Defender 110 who may challenge the Ford Bronco Raptor and Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. North American buyers in 2023 will also receive 30th Anniversary Defender Editiona limited series model that marks the 30th anniversary of Defender’s official launch in the region.

Stay tuned.
