A new charge is expected in the electric passenger car market in India soon. Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the all-electric version of the XUV300 – the XUV400 – on September 6, 2022.

Spy pictures of the electric SUV last month made it clear that the production XUV400 will carry over the design of the eXUV300 concept shown at the Auto Expo 2020. However, unlike the ICE-powered XUV300, the XUV400 will be four meters (about 4.2 meters) longer. , as the below 4 meter rule for the lower tax bracket does not apply to electric vehicles.

Apart from the added length, the XUV400 will differ from the XUV300 with elements such as new headlamps with integrated DRLs, a closed front grille, new tail lamp design and a redesigned tailgate.

Probable features of ADAS
While not much is currently known about the XUV400’s powertrain, Mahindra is likely to equip it with a single front-wheel-drive electric motor that develops around 150 hp, and is likely to come with two battery packs. .

On the hardware front, Mahindra is expected to add a larger touchscreen infotainment system with the brand’s Adreno X infotainment system. The automaker may also equip the XUV400 with ADAS features.

The XUV400 competes with the Tata Nexon EV
The XUV400 will be the start of Mahindra’s electric vehicle strategy, followed by the first electric SUVs, which were unveiled on August 15, in late 2024. The XUV400 will go up against the Tata Nexon EV, which currently has no direct competition, and will be the starting point for Mahindra’s future line of electric vehicles.
