Since its launch in 2000, the Maruti Alto hatchback has been the longest-running model in the Indian market. The new generation Alto K10, which has been evolving for the past 22 years, hopes to remain a favorite in the entry-level segment.
Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the new-generation Alto K10 in India tomorrow, August 18. The new Alto K10 will be the sixth major launch for the automaker this year and the smallest of them all. First launched 22 years ago, Maruti has sold over 40 lakh units of the popular hatchback in the last two decades. In fact, no other car in India sells more than Altwhich establishes the hatchback’s legacy in an era when small cars formed the backbone of the Indian automobile industry.
At a time when the small car segment is starting to lose its hold as the leading passenger car segment due to the rise of SUVs, the new Alto K10 is likely to prove more challenging than ever before. However, Maruti Suzuki’s confidence to continue manufacturing one of its oldest car models comes from its sales figures. The Alto K10 continues to be one of the best selling cars in India.
The new generation Alto K10 will be launched in a new avatar, trying to meet the expectations of new customers who are looking for more features, improved driving dynamics and safety. Maruti Suzuki has not only made changes to the design of the new Alto but also added some features that were not offered earlier.
According to the already known details about the Alto K10 2022, the third generation hatchback will be based on the Maruti Heartect platform. The new Maruti Alto K10 measures 3,530 mm in length, 1,490 mm in width, 1,520 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,380 mm. Both the height and the wheelbase of the new Alto K10 have increased slightly compared to the previous model.
Maruti offers the new Alto K10 in six variants named STD (O), LXi, VXI and VXI+. The top two variants will be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions. The hatchback will be available in six different exterior colors which include Red, Granite Grey, Solid White, Speedy Blue, Silky White and Gold.

Maruti Suzuki has already revealed some of the specifications of the new generation Alto K10 hatchback.
The Maruti Alto K10 2022 in its new generation seems to have slightly influenced the looks of its Celerio sibling. The hatchback has a more rounded profile compared to previous models. According to the leaked images, the hatchback gets a body-colored bumper and grille, steel wheels and halogen headlights. The interior is all black with a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, four power windows, electrically adjustable ORVMs, steering wheel controls and remote keyless entry among other features.
under the hood Maruti Suzuki will equip the new Alto K10 with new gasoline engines of the K10C series. The new K10C series engine which is also offered on other Maruti models like S-Presso, is expected to produce 66 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. Expect the new Alto K10 to offer fuel efficiency of over 25 kmpl.
As for the transmission, Maruti is going to keep faith with the tried and tested five-speed manual gearbox. The automatic transmission will most likely be the four-speed used previously.
The price of the existing Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 hatchback starts from ₹3.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expect the starting price to be somewhere in between ₹3.50 lakh and ₹3.75 lakh (ex-showroom).
