Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara is the company’s first-ever mid-size SUV to be sold through the Nexa dealer network.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was unveiled to the world at a glitzy event earlier this month and the company is now gearing up its flagship SUV for its official launch ahead of the upcoming festive season. Bookings for the Grand Vitara were opened on July 11 and in about three weeks, Maruti Suzuki received more than 20,000 bookings.
Company sources reveal that while the response to the Grand Vitara was strong when bookings first started, the drive for the mid-size SUV has only increased since its official launch. It is also noted that a large proportion of those who booked the Grand Vitara booked the model with strong hybrid technology. The Grand Vitara will come with two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre mild hybrid that offers 100bhp and 135Nm of torque, and the other a 1.5-litre strong hybrid engine with 114bhp. This engine is being touted as a game-changer because – among other reasons – it offers a claimed fuel efficiency of nearly 28km/l.
Maruti Suzuki is the largest car manufacturer in the country and has always had a strong grip on the small and hatchback segments. Its Brezza has also dominated the subcompact SUV space for years, but at a time when buyer preferences are heavily favoring SUVs of all shapes and sizes, Maruti may be losing ground. The Grand Vitara aims to make up for these lost positions.

The newly launched Mahindra Scorpio-N promises increased competition. But Suzuki and Toyota have joined forces to not just get on the field, but to play big. Toyota Urban Cruiser Hayrider was also officially presented. Both the Hyryder and the Grand Vitara will be manufactured at Toyota’s Karnataka facility and will be the only two mid-size SUVs in the country with powerful hybrid technology.
