Mercedes and will.i.am are turning the 4-door AMG GT into a wild single

Musician and philanthropist William James Adams Jr., better known as will.i.am, has joined forces with Mercedes-AMG create a one-time concept car called “WILL.I.AMG”.

The car will be a central part of the latest charity project will.i.am, but before we move on to that, let’s consider the creation itself. It is based on Fr. Four-door Mercedes-AMG GT and was built by West Coast Customs, a supplier of several disposable cars – you can learn the name from MTV’s “Pimp My Ride” program. This is the sixth project that will.i.am has hired for its construction of the West Coast, and it is much more restrained than most of the distant attractions it has collected on the West Coast for personal use.

Will.i.am and West Coast Customs have redesigned the AMG GT body to turn it from a four-door to a two – we think they should be competing for the biggest door on any car. On the hinges behind, in suicide style, they unfold like a pair of welcoming hands. If it was a daily driver, you would be trapped inside after driving into a parking spot at your local grocery store.

We don’t know what inspired the truck-like front, obviously taken from G-carbut its certainly not to be confused with your neighbor’s AMG GT. The three-pointed star Mercedes in the radiator grille was replaced by an image of a bear, symbolizing the phrase “Witness Bear”. This is the name of the line of clothing and accessories of the limited series, which, according to Mercedes, will be available online and at the center of the Mercedes-AMG experience in Miami. There is also a six-part documentary covering the assembly, called “Drive”, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022.

The car is part of the latest charity campaign will.i.am called “The Flip – Innovation for Purpose”, which is designed to give students from poor communities access to STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art and math). This, in turn, will enable them to develop the skills needed to produce future technological jobs that will help them lift themselves, their families and communities out of poverty.

Rapper / songwriter / founder and co-founder of Black Eyed Peas explained his desire to build a special Mercedes as follows: “I grew up in a ghetto. I grew up with hip hop. I’ve watched legendary hip-hop artists write rap about Mercedes, so I’ve always dreamed of having a Mercedes. For many urban children, owning a Mercedes is a symbol of progress and progress beyond the struggle. ”

The Flip program is new, but is actually one of many STEAM educational initiatives supported by the i.am / Angel Foundation musician who has been performing these good works for over a decade. The organization supports and funds students in poor communities, including the hometown of will.i.am, the Boyle Heights district of Los Angeles. Support allows you to participate in courses on robotics, information systems, computer coding, computer-aided design and the arts. The foundation also provides after-school tutoring and scholarships that have helped downtown students attend and graduate from college. The fund has raised millions of dollars in funding for these programs.

For now, will.i.am and Mercedes have only stated that all events related to WILL.I.AMG will benefit the singer’s i.am/Angel Foundation efforts, “to help create a talent pool ready for STEAM that will bring out families and communities out of poverty ”. When it comes to non-standard cars, opinions about what looks cool are as many as people. But no one can argue with the good intentions, positive results and hopes for the future that this represents.
