A prototype of Maserati’s long-awaited GranTurismo redesign has been spotted again.
This hints at a car with similar proportions to the past GranTurismo, but with smoother lines. A cleaner aesthetic, as we see on Supercar MC20seems to be planned as well.
Maserati too testing an electric version but the latest prototype has an internal combustion engine. This indicates that Maserati will offer versions with electric power and an internal combustion engine.
Under the long hood of this particular tester should be Maserati’s twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that debuted in the MC20, possibly with a mild hybrid system or hybrid installed.
However, the main focus will be on the electric powertrain. All new Maserati will offer electric power, starting with this new GranTurismo and the newly introduced Grecale small crossover. Maserati’s electric powertrain, branded Folgore, which means “lightning bolt” in Italian, will consist of a three-motor system: one in the front and two in the back.
The GranTurismo Folgore (shown below) is confirmed to come with more than 1,200 hp.

The new GranTurismo is expected to be unveiled in late 2022, a year later than originally planned. Sales are likely to take place no earlier than 2023. The GranTurismo convertible (GranCabrio in some markets) should arrive about a year after the coupe.
The last GranTurismo has reached end of production in 2019 after a 12-year run. The specialized plant in Madena, where it was built, now produces the MC20. The new GranTurismo is expected to be produced at the Turin plant.
Going forward, Maserati will release redesigned versions of the Quattroporte and Levante, likely with electric drive only. Maserati will also drop the Ghibli after the current model is released.
