Pirelli will debut an updated tire for Portugal Rally this weekend, the first gravel competition at the World Rally Championship after the new Rally1 cars were unveiled.

Drivers will face entirely new challenges on the loose surface offered by Portugal, and to ensure that traction doesn’t get in the way, Pirelli has introduced a revised range of Scorpion KX WRC gravel tires.

Tires need to be more versatile than the asphalt equivalent, which means they need to better withstand sharp stones and gems, minimizing the chance of punctures, and Pirelli manager Terenzio Testoni believes Portugal will be the perfect test for the new rubber.
