Danny Sorda is right. Portugal’s Rally next week is indeed the stage of the World Rally Championship, closest to his birthplace in Cantabria. This and the thousands of fans who go across the border to build roads and wave flags for him, make this week special for the Spaniard.
Sorda has always loved Portugal, especially when it is based in the north, near Porto. It is just over 400 miles from a place he once called home to northern Spain (before he moved to Andorra). Porto is only 19 miles closer to Cantabria than Salou, but stands out on stages and you can feel the absolute passion for this most endearing driver.
And it’s mutual.
“I like this rally,” says Sorda DirtFish. “Portugal is always a special place for me. You know, you see the fans, this rally is really part of the story, and when you drive on the roads, you feel it. ”
