As if people who are already trying to become multi-platform stars were not enough, soon all of them will have to compete with ANA, a hyper-realistic virtual person from Krafton.
A company that also makes popular PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds royal battle game open (opens in new tab) a couple of ANA images on Wednesday. The photos show only her head – or really only her face – but depicts a pink-haired and somewhat playful person who looks as if she is very interested in the next thing you have to say.
However eventually we will see more ANA. As Joshua Sokjin Sheen, head of the Krafton creative center, explained in a press release, Krafton promises to “release an original music track and expand its activities as an influencer in various fields of entertainment and e-sports.”
Based on the images, ANA really looks real. There are still problems with her teeth, too perfect skin and plastic fingers that lightly touch her face. Despite this, the effect, thanks to the inclusion of imperfections such as weak pores, wrinkles and tiny hairs on the skin, is very bright.
Even without a full body image or motion video there is reason to believe that ANA can become something special. When Krafton initially unveiled its hyperrealistic technology in February, which uses face styling technology for subtle and vibrant expressions, pupil movements and natural joint movements, it also released Cinematic video PUBG (opens in new tab) demonstrating the current state of its virtual human technology.
In the video, a group of PUBG competitors are fighting an enemy in a mask. Several scenes approaching true realism mingle with the unusual moments of the valley. One of the characters, a woman who received a shot in the arm, looks like an obvious ancestor of ANA.
In addition to all the technology for face, skin and body, Krafton says it uses deep learning to create voice AI that will allow ANA to “act and sing like a real person”.
Why do we need it?
We live in a world of fakes. Be it actors who wear other people’s faces to recreate younger versions of the original actors (see Bob Fett and Luke Skywalker (opens in new tab)), Deep Fakers with the faces of other actors (opens in new tab)or boots that think they’re humanit’s hard to trust what you see, hear or read.
Artificial people, even artificial influential people, have been around for years. But few are wrong Michelefor example, for a real person. However, based on what Crafton promises, we won’t soon find out whether they’re TikToker, who tells us about the perfect cleansing, or YouTuber, who sings the original song, Flesh and Blood or Units and Zeros.
We will be happy to welcome ANA if it is ready to enter the digital scene, but perhaps it will be able to follow the game in PUBG and not try to eliminate one of the participants on The Voice.
