Rain forced a cancellation of Wednesday’s workout on the 106th Indianapolis 500 as downpours that came to the Indianapolis area shortly before the scheduled start of noon did not allow cars to turn the circle. This is the first complete washout of the Indianapolis 500 workout day since May 17, 2016.

The practice will resume from 12.00 to 18.00 on Thursday.

IndyCar also announced changes to the workout schedule next Monday, by 1pm ET. The transition from the originally scheduled time of noon to 2pm will give teams that took part in the Top 12 qualifiers and the Firestone Fast Six on Sunday, more time to switch to their racing engines, the series said. Teams that qualified on the ground from the 13th to the 33rd on Saturday, May 21, will not turn circles in the 2.5-mile Oval Sunday, and on that day they will be allowed to change engines.
