SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) has announced that the total sales volume of electric vehicles in China has exceeded 1 million units.
Since 2017, SGMW has introduced eight electric vehicle models in China, from the earliest Baojun E100 to the best-selling Wuling Hong Guang MINIEV. The latter has been China’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sales champion for 22 consecutive months since its launch in July 2020.
The success of Wuling and Baojun electric vehicles is based on SGMW’s indigenous Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, which provides significant economies of scale and manufacturing flexibility. To build on its strength in electric vehicle production and sales, SGMW has announced plans to expand its NEV offerings to include hybrid electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles in China and to begin manufacturing electric vehicles overseas.
Production of the Wuling Air EV, the first SGMW EV produced outside of China, began on August 8 in Indonesia.
Based in Liuzhou, Guangxi Province, SGMW is a joint venture established by GM, SAIC and Guangxi Automobile Group in 2002. In July 2017, SGMW Indonesia was established to sell Wuling passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
