Session time and preview of Supercars Winton SuperSprint 2022

This is the first visit of this category to the village Victorian since 2019, where it is planned to participate in races for the last two seasons, interrupted by the pandemic.

Last year, the Winton round was canceled a few days later due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.

With the closing of borders in Australia, it is clear that the Winton SuperSprint will return with 27 cars heading to the track this weekend.

This includes 25 regular entries plus two wildcards, one of Erebus Motorsport / Image Racing for the Jordan Boys and one of Wokinshaw Andretti United for Jaden Ojeda.

The two-day rapid-fire format returns when supercars only run on Saturdays, Sundays and Fridays dedicated to support categories.

Supercars ’action begins Saturday morning with a couple of half-hour workouts.

Then on Saturday afternoon the network of the first of three sprint races for 110 kilometers will be determined.

On Sunday, there will be two all-in qualifying sessions 10 minutes before two more sprint races.

Each of the races will include a mandatory stop for at least two tires, and the new Dunlop Super Soft Control tire will be the only mix in the game over the weekend.

Each driver will be limited to five sets of the softest composite control tire for Saturday’s qualifying start.

The two-year hiatus makes Ford difficult to read on the way to Vintan. Back in 2019 it was a clean sweep for Scott McLaughlin and what was then known as DJR Team Penske.

The era of McLaughlin’s rule may be over, but Dick Johnson Racing is now known to go to Winton in good shape after Will Davison’s breakthrough victory in Perth in the last timeout.

Triple Eight star Shane van Gisbergen will also travel to Vintan in great shape and with a healthy lead on points.

The two Queensland teams will have to fight the Victorians on their home soil, with most Melbourne-based teams deciding to take the test at Winton last week.

It will be especially interesting to watch the form of Wokinshaw Andretti United, as the team has gone from winning the race in Albert Park to the lockouts in the back row in Perth.

Meanwhile, Tickford Racing last week did not test all of its cars, but demonstrated advanced form in Perth.
