The American company Tuner Shelby and the car rental company Hertz first merged in 1966. Shelby GT350-H, a special Mustang performance for Hertz called “Rent-a-Racer”. The GT500-H is based on the 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 Shelby GT500, but instead of a 760-horsepower standard car, the Hertz version was modified to produce more than 900 ponies, making it the most powerful car for Shelby rental. The GT500-H rides on aluminum monoblock wheels wrapped in “performance tires,” though Shelby hasn’t specified the tire model. Shelby also says it saved 30 pounds with a ventilated carbon fiber hood.
The GT-H is more restrained and seems to be based on the 450-liter V-8. Mustang GT. The GT-H will come as a convertible or coupe and will be painted in red, white, gray or black. Shelby gave the GT-H a Borla exhaust pipe with a cat’s back, as well as a revised grille and hood. The 20-inch aluminum wheels feature Michelin all-season tires.
Shelby Hertz Mustangs will be available for rent this summer. The GT500-H will be available in Las Vegas, Phoenix and four locations in Florida: Tampa, Miami, Orlando and Fort Myers. Meanwhile, the GT-H will be available in Atlanta, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix-San Diego, San Francisco and five locations in Florida, adding Fort Lauderdale to the four aforementioned cities. All cars will be completed at Shelby American’s assembly plant in Las Vegas.
