The much-anticipated Tata Curvv has finally made its debut, bringing a distinctive SUV coupe design to the competitive mid-size SUV market. This segment is already populated by popular models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor. While the top-spec variant of the Tata Curvv offers advanced features like Level-2 ADAS, many potential buyers may wonder if the entry-level variant delivers good value for money. Let’s take a closer look.

The base variant of the Tata Curvv, called the “Smart,” is available with two engine options. You can choose between the 1.2-litre Revotron turbo petrol engine (120PS and 170Nm) or the 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine (118PS and 260Nm). Both come with a 6-speed manual transmission, as there is no option for a dual-clutch automatic in this variant. The new 1.2-litre Hyperion gasoline direct injection engine (125PS and 225Nm) is also not available in the Smart trim.

Pricing for the base variant is competitive. The Tata Curvv Smart Revotron turbo petrol MT is priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Kryojet diesel MT variant comes at Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), Rs 1.50 lakh more. These introductory prices are valid for bookings made until October 31, 2024.

In terms of features, the Tata Curvv Smart offers an impressive list for a base variant. Exterior highlights include LED headlamps and taillamps, LED DRLs, flush door handles with welcome lighting, a rear spoiler, and 16-inch steel wheels. Inside, the Smart variant is equipped with a two-spoke illuminated digital steering wheel, a 4-inch digital instrument cluster, anti-glare IRVM, height-adjustable driver seat, multifunction steering wheel, manual HVAC, adjustable steering (tilt), 100% flip-and-fold rear seat, and rear roof lamp. It also provides multiple drive modes: Eco, City, and Sport.

Tata Motors has a well-established reputation for building safe vehicles, and the Curvv is no exception. Even the base Smart variant comes loaded with essential safety features. These include six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and a reverse guiding ultrasonic sensor.

On paper, the Tata Curvv Smart variant offers solid value for its price, combining safety, essential features, and competitive pricing in the entry-level SUV market. Stay tuned for a full review of the Tata Curvv and updates on its sales performance in the coming months.
