Tata Motors has partnered with EC Wheels India, an app-based urban transport service in Kolkata, to deploy 1,000 XPres T electric sedans for taxi services. Tata Motors is to start deliveries in a phased manner.

Ramesh Doraijan, Senior General Manager, Electric Vehicle Sales & Network Management, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “Tata Motors has always focused on accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in the mobility space, helping to grow the Indian electric mobility market. We are delighted to partner with EC Wheels India for the largest deployment of electric sedans in the fleet segment in the eastern region.”

Mayank Bindal, Director-Promoter, EC Wheels India, a subsidiary of Steelman Group, said, “Through this association, we aim to contribute to a large EV mobility ecosystem in Eastern India, thereby reducing carbon footprint.”

In July 2021, Tata Motors launched the Xpres brand exclusively for fleet customers with the Xpres-T EV, the first vehicle under the brand. The XPres-T electric sedan has 2 range options – 213 km and 165 km (range certified by ARAI under test conditions). It is equipped with a 21.5kWh and 16.5kWh high energy density battery and can be charged from 0 to 80% in 90 minutes and 110 minutes respectively via fast charging or can be charged normally from any point of the 15A socket. Others highlights are single-speed automatic transmission, dual airbags, ABS with EBD as standard on all variants. A premium black interior with standard automatic climate control and electric blue interior and exterior accents set it apart from other cars.

Tata Motors is growing in the Indian electric vehicle market and is the leader in the electric mobility market in India with a staggering 87% market share in FY2022. To date, the automaker has more than 30,000 Tata EVs in the personal and fleet segments.
