The overland scene has become very popular – some may even say it is oversaturated – but sometimes there are builds that stand out and are based on a new interesting model. Enter this GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X 2022, which has been converted into an amazing land truck. It was assembled with an assortment of spare parts and debuted today at the Overland Expo in the west in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The build, which was completed by Mule Expedition Outfitters, is based on the Sierra AT4X. GMC advertises recently introduced model as the pinnacle of the off-road capabilities of a half-truck. Essentially an improved version of the regular AT4, the X-Rating version features exclusive equipment such as electronic front and rear differential locks, extra body protection, longer suspension travel and tricky Multimatic shock absorbers. We recently rode an AT4X around the Anza Barega Desert State Park in Southern California and saw what he could do first hand.

While the interior of the truck with leather upholstery and technology is mostly standard, as is its 6.2-liter V-8 with a capacity of 420 liters. The transformation begins with a 6.4-foot platform that replaces the standard 5.8-foot truck platform. Behind the cabin is a 3-foot canopy (aka doghouse) containing a camp kitchen and a shower with heater. Inside there is also a refrigerator and solar panels mounted on top.

There are more than 20 spare parts and accessories that adorn the Sierra AT4X. Some of the other great additions include five amber LED roof lights, a pull-out awning, a double ground tent and an onboard air compressor. The latter will come in handy after airing the truck’s narrow tires, which replace the standard set of larger 33-inch Firestone Destination M / T2 tires mounted on unique 17-inch wheels (available in 18). Another notable update on this terrestrial AT4X is the air springs on the rear axle that help control the weight of all the optional equipment on the rear.

Before any modifications the ’22 Sierra 1500 AT4X has a high starting price of $ 77,395. Although the Overland Expo does not disclose the cost of parts or installation, we would not be surprised if this special ground version approached or exceeded the six-figure figures.
