The total audience (TAD) of 1.30 million viewers across NBC, USA Network, Peacock and NBC Sports digital platforms was the most-watched INDYCAR SERIES season since 2016 with 1.31 million viewers on NBCSN and ABC, TV only. TAD is based on data from Nielsen and Adobe Analytics.
Half of the season’s 16 televised races had TADs of more than 1 million viewers, the highest since 2008. The opening race of 2022, the Saint Petersburg Grand Prix on February 27, is the most popular of the season. opening in 11 years with a TAD of 1.44 million viewers and the most-watched 500 INDYCAR race not at Indianapolis in 11 years.
In addition, the Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 10 brought the most-watched edition of the race in NBC Sports history (since 2009) with TAD 1.08 million viewers.
Backed by coverage on Peacock, including an exclusive platform presentation of the race in Toronto on July 17, The 2022 season is set to be the most popular in IndyCar history with an Average Minute Audience (AMA) of 50,400 viewers, up 470% from 2021.
