The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve is aimed at luxury establishments

The Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022 model line plays two roles, and one of them is luxury.

Of course, the base models of the Grand Cherokee take such basic models as the Ford Explorer, Toyota 4Runner and Honda Passport. But modern top Cherokee models, such as the Summit and Summit Reserve, stand out as luxury BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE-class SUVs, equipped and feel like luxury SUVs.

Two-line version of The fifth generation Grand Cherokee distinguishes the dynamics of movement and proportions for which the model was known, as well as a more luxurious interior. But some features seem redundant, the V-8 is thirsty and its time is almost up and there are some life support issues.

Here’s what I learned while spending a week at the luxurious and expensive 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve.

Blow: firm and muscular

The fifth-generation Grand Cherokee was launched on the new WL platform as a longer three-wheel drive model, known internally as the WL75. The the three-row Grand Cherokee rides softly and its proportions are closer to the proportions of the Honda Pilot than Jeep designers might admit. The suspension of the two-row model WL74 has a stiffer stroke, similar to the model WK2 of the latest generation. The proportions and size are also similar to the WK2 thanks to a more muscular stance than the three-row model. The firmer suspension setting gives the shorter WL74 better handling and body control, and also makes driving more interesting than its longer sibling.

Ms.: Justifying this screen

The My Summit Reserve tester was equipped with a recently available 10.3-inch touchscreen mounted on the dashboard in front of the front passenger. He was included in the group of options Summit Reserve for $ 4,000. For the rest of my life I can’t understand why anyone wants this screen instead of spending a few hundred bucks on an iPad. The iPad will be mobile, its easier to update with time and variable. This screen will linger on the dashboard forever, and does the passenger really want to watch a movie while traveling? The screen is also a separate option on the smaller Grand Cherokee.

Hit and miss: The V-8 will be gone soon

My tester was equipped with an additional 5.7-liter V-8 for $ 3,295. With a capacity of 357 liters. On the plus side, the V-8 sounds fantastic, distributes its power more smoothly than the V-6, and increases the Grand Cherokee’s payload from 6,200 pounds to 7,200 pounds.

However, and thirst. The EPA’s V-8 fuel economy, which is 14 mpg in the city, 22 on the highway and 17 together, will make many families shudder, and Jeep recommends booting more expensive 89-octane fuel. During my cold week in Minnesota with the Grand Cherokee I scored an average of 13.0 miles per gallon over almost 200 miles of mixed driving. As the owner of a previous version of this engine in the 2018 Grand Cherokee release, I can say that it is quite efficient on the highway at high temperatures, but feels thirsty when the weather gets cold.

All of this will be controversial, as the V-8 in the Grand Cherokee sooner rather than later leaves according to Jeep brand manager Jim Morrison. Is new native-6 turbocharged replace it or not until seen.

Hit: luxury without a badge

The interior of the latest Grand Cherokee in the form of Summitt Reserve is luxurious. From wood with open pores to the cold touch of real metal on the round gear selector and soft leather Palermo is a premium material. It is also loaded with heated, cooled and massaged front seats; night vision; heated and cooled rear seats; home display; two 10.0-inch entertainment screens in the back seats with Amazon FireTV; and a McIntosh audio system with 19 speakers of 950 watts. These are not items that can be found in a typical Ford Explorer. Instead, they will most likely adorn the BMW X5. The Jeep is even equipped with ventilated rear seats, which may not be the case in the X5.

Ms.: Dangers of family life

Despite the upscale materials, Jeep has made several failed choices that will eventually make the showroom look worn out. The entire front center console is made of shiny black plastic piano. It certainly looked good on the first day, but by the time it arrived at my porch, the odometer had clicked over 4,000 miles and the center console looked as if it had spent 50,000 miles on scratches and frayed children. This is not what I would expect from an SUV for $ 74,880 (including a horrible appointment fee of $ 1,795). When you buy it, be careful with keys or hard objects that can damage the center console and pedestals.

Apart from convenience and thirst, the Grand Cherokee has evolved into a completely hidden luxury mobile phone that will surprise and delight with its comfort and capabilities.
