The fastest BMW (to date) around the Nurburgring has been discovered, but it is unclear whether it can be bought.

BMW said the M4 CSL takes 3.6 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph and reaches 120 mph in 10.5 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 191 miles per hour, and the M4 CSL is the fastest production BMW in history around the Nurburgring with a lap time of 7: 20.2.

Weight loss was predictably the focus for CSL, which stands for “Competition, Sport, Lightweight”. The CSL weighs 3640 pounds after dropping 240 pounds from standard M4 models. The light interior weight is provided by just two carbon fiber bucket seats, which saved 53 pounds for the front seats and another 46 pounds by removing the rear seat. As in the M4 Competition, the M4 CSL has a carbon fiber reinforced (CRFP) roof panel. Using the CRFP hood and trunk lid, shaved 3 pounds and 15 pounds respectively.

The CSL will sound different from the smaller M4 thanks to a new titanium rear muffler and less exhaust sound insulation, both for lower sound and for lower weight. Using a lighter reflector and less of it removed another 33 pounds.

CSL models can be easily spotted thanks to yellow daytime running lights on standard laser headlights. The CLS is also debuting taillight technology, which uses standard LED bulbs but has light filaments woven into glass lanterns. The effect is a characteristic light image unlike any other BMW. Buyers will have a choice of metallic colors Frozen Brooklyn Gray, Ice White or Black Sapphire.

The aerodynamics have been refined with a built-in spoiler on the boot lid, as well as a CRFP front splitter and rear diffuser. Mirrors are also CRFP.

Suspension and design changes include a 0.3-inch reduction in road height, the use of wrought-alloy springs and struts, the addition of auxiliary springs to support tires on the road, more negative front camber collapse, unique front and rear stabilizers, solid rear connectors elements and a front strut designed to correct CSL side loads.

The standard carbon-ceramic brakes, which save 31.5 pounds compared to a standard steel installation, are hidden by wrought-iron alloy wheels typical of the M. Red brake calipers capture 15.7-inch front wheels and 15.0-inch rear wheels. The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R, rated Z, 275 / 35R19 at the front and 285 / 30R19 at the rear, was designed specifically for the M4 CSL. Buyers can also get still sticky but more livable tires with the M4 Competition for free.

The traction control system in CSL allows drivers to choose one of five intervention thresholds. The smaller M4 models have four settings, and the fifth CSL threshold allows you to slip the wheels as much as possible before security systems enter to save the day. Activating dynamic mode M completely deactivates the stability control system.

Inside the M4 CSL is not as luxurious as other BMWs. The center console is made of CRFP, which saved £ 9. Despite saving weight, BMW has covered the center armrest with leather and added a wireless charger for smartphones. The three-spoke steering wheel looks familiar, but the shift levers are made of carbon fiber.
