- The Kia EV6 GT will go on sale in the US later this year.
- It has 577 horsepower and an upgraded chassis to deliver better performance than smaller EV versions.
- Kia claims it sprints to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and has a top speed of 161 mph.
The Kia EV6 is about to get a much more powerful variant called the GT. With 577bhp, all-wheel drive and some heady performance claims, it will top the EV6 range above the Light, Wind and GT-Line trims. This model also probably shows a lot of what future version of N related Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will offer. We are already drove an EV6 GT in Europeand now we have confirmation of its US specs ahead of its arrival on our shores later this year.
The EV6 GT’s front and rear electric motors deliver a total of 577 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque. That’s a lot more than the current most powerful version of the EV6, the 320 hp twin-motor version. This model has already accelerated to 60 miles per hour an impressive 4.5 seconds in our test, but the GT will be even faster, and faster on top. Kia claims the EV6 GT will sprint to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 161 mph.
The increased focus on power and performance hurts the EV6 GT’s range estimate, which is a paltry 206 miles. It has the same 77.4 kWh battery as the other versions, but that’s 104 miles less than the version of the electric vehicle with the longest range, the rear-wheel drive Long Range model, with an EPA rating of 310 miles. Even the base model EV6, a rear-wheel-drive version with a smaller 58.0 kWh battery, beats the GT with its range rating of 232 miles.
Adaptive dampers, an electronically controlled differential, and front and rear brakes are standard on the GT. The 21-inch wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, although Kia did not specify whether they are summer or all-season tires. There’s also a dedicated set of drive modes, which includes a Drift mode that sends more power to the rear wheels for sliding. There are also new artificial sounds that make the EV soundtrack more dramatic.
Inside, the main differences include sports seats, neon green accents and GT logos. The front and rear also have a slightly different look, although the GT isn’t as easily distinguishable from the less powerful GT-Line version, which also benefits from exterior tweaks compared to lesser models.
Kia hasn’t announced pricing for the GT yet, but we’re guessing it will start around $60,000, given that the GT-Line starts at $57,695. It will hit US dealerships in the fourth quarter of this year.
