The Jeep Avenger EV will make its debut, but it won’t come to America

Don’t worry, all you electric Jeep lovers living in America. The company won’t sell the 2023 Jeep Avenger — its first all-electric model — in the U.S., but Recon on electronic fuel and tentatively named Wagoneer S will fill that void when they both eventually arrive on our shores in 2024. While we wait, let’s take a closer look at the Avenger, which debuted at the Paris Motor Show today.

The Jeep Avenger has been on our radar for a while now. We caught our first glimpse of it back in March, when Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, announced its future plans for electric vehicles. A lot has been said, but what really caught our attention was the image of a chunky yellow model that accurately reflected the Avenger’s appearance. Then, early last month, Jeep revealed details about the upcoming Recon and Wagoneer S, along with the Avenger’s official name, its production design, and the fact that it won’t be sold in America. Vomp.

Jeep Avenger, collect!

The small size of the Avenger is a good fit for Europe. It’s much less than that the already chunky Jeep Renegade– About half a foot shorter, actually. Jeep says the Avenger is about 4.1 meters long, which is roughly 161 inches, and it rides on 18-inch wheels. Thanks to short overhangs, the miniature ute has an approach angle of 20 degrees and a departure angle of 32 degrees. It also has about 7.9 inches of ground clearance. Jeep says it even has hill descent control and skid plates. Of course, we doubt many Avenger drivers will attempt to tackle the truly treacherous terrain.

At the heart of the Avenger is a 400-volt electrical system that mates with a single electric motor that drives the front wheels; A twin-engine and all-wheel drive 4xe model is also reportedly coming. Oddly enough, a gas-powered variant will also be available at launch, but it will only be offered in Italy and Spain. Despite this, the front-wheel-drive Avenger EV makes 154 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Its electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 54.0 kWh. The Jeep’s DC fast charging rate tops out at 100kW, which is said to discharge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes.

Cab and a really cool 4×4 concept

Inside, the Avenger’s interior features a clean dashboard design that is accentuated by a body-colored panel that connects the front pillars and includes integrated air vents. Along with the 10.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, the driver is faced with either 7.0- or 10.3-inch digital instruments. There’s also a parcel shelf that splits the dashboard in half, providing the perfect storage space for smaller items. The front of the center console has a unique folding magnetic cover, and the space it protects has a wireless charging pad and can hold a 1.5 liter bottle. Need to store larger items? The rear cargo area will swallow 13 cubic feet of trash.

​​​​​​​While a little electric Jeep is cool, especially one that looks like an Avenger, we weren’t too fazed by its forbidden fruit status — at least until we saw the radical Avenger 4×4 concept that Jeep also revealed at Paris Motor Show. It has wider fenders and a wider track, as well as larger tires. There’s also optional front lighting and a unique hood with a black decal and blue-trimmed vent that matches the other blue accents on the front tow hooks. We’re told the 4×4 concept improves the off-road performance of the regular Avenger with more ground clearance and slightly steeper entry and exit angles. Needless to say, we’re a little bummed now that it’s not coming to our shores.

The 2023 Jeep Avenger will be built at the Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland, and is slated to hit European showrooms early next year.
