Kia India is preparing to launch its first electric car in India, the EV6. The Korean carmaker will open orders for the EV6 electric crossover from May 26. The official launch of prices is expected to take place later. Kia will bring the EV6 via the CBU route, but may later produce the car in India. It will compete with the like Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is a technical cousin, as well as other EVs like Volvo XC40 Recharge in the Indian market.

Earlier, Kia introduced the EV6 to global markets. Based on the carmaker’s new electric global modular platform (E-GMP), the EV6 has become one of the strong contenders for this year’s edition of the World Car of the Year. However, EV made up for the loss by winning the European Car of the Year award.

Kia has packed the EV6 with a large high-density lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 77.4 kW / h. This helps the electric crossover return the high range. According to the car manufacturer, the EV6 is capable of driving up to 528 km on a single charge. Kia also claims that the EV6 doesn’t take even more than half an hour to fully recharge from scratch when charged to full power at 350 kW. However, the charging speed is just over an hour to recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent when using a fast 50 kW DC charger.

In terms of Kia EV6 performance, the electric crossover is powered by a single engine. It can generate a maximum power of 325 PS and 605 Nm of peak torque in the best AWD options. The lower version has a power of 229 PS and 350 Nm of torque. Kia claims that the eV6 can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h in just 3.5 seconds, making it one of the fastest EVs sold in India.

The EV6 will also be one of the safest cars on Indian roads. It will be packed with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) 5 with semi-autonomous capabilities including Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2). They offer features such as front-end collision warning, lane keeping assistance, blind spot detection, driver attention monitor and more. The EV6 will come standard with 8 airbags as well as downhill assistance among other safety features.

The electric crossover looks modern with Kia’s new design language for future cars. It gets sleek LED headlights with adaptive high beam and LED taillights. The 19-inch alloy wheels, located under large wheel arches, also make it sporty.

The interior boasts premium quality with suede leather upholstery, seat ventilation function, electric front seats in 10 directions and a massage function. The EV6 has a 12.3-inch infotainment system with a touch screen, as well as a digital dashboard of equal size. The top-of-the-line version of the AWD may come with additional features such as a Head Up Display and a 14-speaker sound system.
