Maserati presented MC20 Cielo Spyder earlier this year, and the model recently celebrated its North American debut at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.
Named after the Italian word for sky, the MC20 Cielo Spyder is a stunning two-seater roadster with a retractable glass roof that opens and closes in just 12 seconds.
In addition to the coupé-like appearance, the model features an electrochromic glass window on the roof that changes from transparent to opaque at the push of a button thanks to polymer-dispersed liquid crystal technology. This isn’t the only party trick, as the roof has no effect on the vehicle’s carrying capacity.
Stepping inside, drivers will find a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a matching 10.25-inch infotainment system. They are joined by an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with Start and Launch Control buttons, as well as dark aluminum or carbon fiber paddle shifters. Other highlights include a matte carbon fiber finish, a wireless smartphone charger and a digital drive mode selector with GT, Sport, Corsa, Wet and ESC Off settings.
As and coupe, the MC20 Cielo Spyder features a carbon fiber monocoque and is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine. It develops an impressive 621 hp. (463 kW / 630 hp) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm) of torque.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing the model to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in around three seconds, before reaching a top speed of over 199 mph (320 km). /g). Also, because the roadster weighs just 143 pounds (65 kg) more than the coupe, Maserati says the Cielo Spyder “retains the dynamic performance and driving pleasure” of the standard model.
