The Nexperia, Kyocera AVX team on GaN automotive modules

NExperia, an expert in major semiconductors, has announced a partnership covering automotive gallium nitride (GaN) automotive power modules with Kyocera AVX Components (Salzburg) GmbH, a leading international supplier of advanced electronic components for the automotive industry. The partnership is the next step in a long-term close relationship between the two firms and will focus on energy components with the aim of jointly developing GaN applications for electric vehicles (EVs).

As passenger vehicles become more electrified, there is also a growing demand for energy semiconductors that provide efficient energy conversion at ever higher power densities. High-voltage GaN field-effect transistors combined with innovative packaging technologies can meet the requirements of better efficiency, higher power density and lower system cost. GaN power tools not only provide excellent performance in these applications, but now also provide the reliability, durability and manufacturability expected from core technologies serving a wide range of applications in different market segments. Nexperia manufactures GaN devices in-house using sophisticated mass production methods that have been confirmed to meet the highest reliability requirements for AEC-Q101 certified devices.
