It is planned that the brother of the SUV Mercedes C-Class sedan will soon receive a redesign, and these are the first official photos of the new 2023 GLC class compact luxury crossover. This prototype, which has passed winter testing, still has a bit of camouflage, but we can clearly see its overall shape and proportions, and Mercedes has revealed some features of this new generation X254 model, due to arrive in the US later this year.
The new model seems to be a bit bigger than before, with a wider posture and clearer rear wings. The five-spoke on this prototype has an interesting triangular design, and thin headlights and taillights are similar to C-Class sedan. Mercedes has not yet released photos of the interior, but says it will have a new steering wheel, the latest infotainment software MBUX and large screens, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument and 11.9-inch central infotainment screen .
We expect that the base model will again be called the GLC300, as it will use a hybrid system of the C300 sedan with a turbocharged 2.0 liters and 48 volts. This combination will produce 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. 4Matic all-wheel drive is likely to be optional, with rear-wheel drive as standard, as the new GLC again shares its platform with the C-Class. Next up will be more powerful AMG options that can use the same hybrid four-cylinder transmissions expected for the C43 and C63 AMG, with the latter expected to produce more than 500 horsepower.
Expect more information about the new GLC soon, which is likely to be unveiled in full over the next few months before arriving in the U.S. closer to the end of the year.
