• This perfectly maintained 2001 Audi TT Quattro with only 41,000 miles is up for auction at Bring a Trailer, bidding ends Monday, November 14th.
• This particular TT with Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system produces 225 horsepower from a turbocharged inline-four mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
• C/D did a 40,000 mile test on a 2000 TT Quattro, noting at the time that it was “a lasting delight for the eyes.” Twenty years later, I agree with that sentiment; its appearance has been preserved over time.
First-generation Audi TT Quattros are certainly not the rarest of sports cars, and conventional wisdom would say that any 21-year-old car is crap in terms of reliability. However, I was immediately drawn to this well-maintained, if lightly used, TT for the simple fact that I grew up in one. This 2001 TT Quattro with 41,000 miles is currently listed on the Bring a Trailer auction site, which-how Car and driver— is part of Hearst Autos.
The first generation TT went into production in 1999, but we had to wait a whole year to get this version with a more powerful 225 hp engine equipped with a large turbocharger. This TT is finished in Lake Silver Metallic paint over a black leather interior, none of which show any major signs of aging normally attributed to cars of this age. Paint includes a scratch on the hood as well as rock chips on the bumper. The leather on the front seats is cracked with no visible tears, and the rear seats appear to be in excellent condition. The rest of the interior appears to be in even better shape, looking impeccably maintained throughout its lifetime.
TT is much more than a one trick pony. It was a 10Best winner in both 2000 year and 2001 year. Thanks to the Quattro all-wheel drive system and a power of 225 hp, it is capable of becoming a sports car. Plus, having spent a good chunk of my childhood in the back seat of a 2002 TT, I’m uniquely qualified to talk about how amazingly put together it can be as a family hauler. Until I was 12 and my brother was 14, we would regularly pack into our TT on the way to and from hockey practice with two full-sized hockey bags and our dad’s coach bag along with three hockey sticks. Admittedly, over the past year and a half, my brother and I have argued more than once as backseat space has become more of an issue, but even so, our TT has proven to be a reliable companion through many Wisconsin winters.
The Carfax report for the TT shows a record of damage from a 2003 accident that left the front left of the car damaged, and lists registration and service history with one owner in New York since new. The dealership selling the car wrote a comment on the post explaining that the bumper had been repainted, likely indicating a minor accident. Current bids for the car are as high as $2,600, but if recent auctions are anything to go by, this car will likely fetch closer to $15,000 or $20,000.
