The Apple Watch is the most popular fitness tracking device. From tracking jogs and rides, to goal setting and to this rush of excitement closing their ringsthis smart wearable device has really affected the way we all work.
But what if you could unlock more? What if your Apple Watch can read you the secrets of your body composition?
Brand new Aura Belt 2 may be the key you need for a new look at tracking health and wellness data. Using bioimpedance analysis (BIA), this accessory is the only wearable device that provides measurement of fat, muscle and hydration on the Apple Watch. Here’s what we know about this reworked band designed to help you reach your peak physique.
Aura Strap 2 is like smart scales for your wrist
The Aura Strap 2 is 20 percent slimmer and 5 percent narrower than its original version, works by touching the heel of your palm to the electrodes on the back of the strip and waiting 30 seconds. BIA sensors then send a weak electric current through your body to calculate fat, muscle mass, minerals and water. According to Aura, the redesigned architecture captures 16 times more data points than the original device, increasing accuracy by up to 95 percent from DEXA scan – the gold standard of BIA measurement.
Measurements can be viewed in the Aura app, connected via Bluetooth, where you can view maps of bioimpedance vector analysis (BIVA) to get informative volume of your personal body, hydration and physical progress. You can also set fitness goals in the app and monitor your progress during workouts and diets to achieve your desired self.
Love to use Apple Health app? Aura Strap 2 is also fully synchronized with Apple HealthKit, keeping all your data neatly in one place.
Bring more to your workouts with the new Aura Plus app
To really take advantage of all that Aura has to offer, the brand has also introduced a subscription-based app, Aura Plus. In addition to body composition measurements, goal tracking and other content in the free version, Aura Plus gives you even more in-depth analytics on your personal BIVA card, as well as monthly health reports. The subscription – $ 9.99 per month or $ 79.99 per year – also gives you personalized recommendations to maximize your fitness journey, as well as access to Aura’s library of workout plans and videos.
According to the brand, Aura Plus will also allow you to talk one-on-one with a certified sports doctor or personal trainer. However, this bonus feature has not yet been launched, so we will have to wait and see how profitable it is. So far, we believe we will take advantage of a free six-month subscription, but the free version seems to be enough for the average user once the trial is over.
Specifications and price of Aura Strap 2:
The updated ribbon from Aura is now available in one black in two sizes for the Apple Watch 38/40/41mm and 42/44/45mm. Belt 2 works with any Apple Watch Series 3 or later and is currently only compatible with iOS. Unlike the previous version, Aura Strap 2 uses a stretchable tape similar to Apple Solo Loop rather than clasp mechanisms.
Less than $ 150 is not the most expensive Apple Watch Band, but certainly provides more than just a modernized aesthetic. Although we’re not yet fully sold in the subscription-based app, the Aura Strap 2 looks like an accessory you don’t want to miss. Maybe even a good companion future series 8.
