To understand the implications of making solar energy on the roof in the United States, customer review and consumer news platform ConsumerAffairs surveyed 1,000 American homeowners about their views and overall experience of using solar panels. That’s what the hosts said.

The reasons – and against – the adoption of solar energy on the roof

Homeowners who have installed solar panels have explained their main reasons for this, as well as how much they have spent:

  • In favor of the environment: 60%
  • Energy security: 54%
  • To reduce energy bills: 52%
  • To reduce energy dependence: 49%
  • Tax credit / discount: 37%
  • Shade the roof: 29%
  • To be offline: 28%

Homeowners who adopted the solar panel spent an average of $ 11,735, and it took seven years to see a return on investment.

And those who did not switch to solar panels on the roof, shared their main deterrents:

  • Too expensive: 22%
  • Not sure how incentives work: 11%
  • Awaiting next technical progress: 10%
  • Credit problems: 8%
  • Not sure how the solar panel works: 6%
  • Roof not suitable for solar panels: 5%

How the sun on the roof affects the cost of the house

In St. Petersburg, Florida, and Knoxville, Tennessee, the two largest percentages increased housing prices for the placement of solar panels on roofs. Owners of solar homes in these two cities were able to sell at a staggering 159% and 149% more than others, respectively.

California, which is regularly at the forefront of green initiatives and legislation, had 11 of the top 75 cities with the highest price increases in green home sales. New York had the largest number of clean energy homes for sale.

Even the four cities that are at the bottom of the percentage increase in value – Seattle; Columbus, Ohio; Bridgeport, Connecticut; and Anaheim, California – the selling price of homes with solar panels increased by 1%.

70% of homeowners surveyed were satisfied with the significant increase in the cost of housing after installation.

Homeowners can earn a significant amount of money by using solar panels, especially after the initial cost of installation is recouped. The average American solar house reports that the average annual savings are $ 1,587 just at the expense of energy costs alone.
