The first division was a replica of yesterday’s race, Waters was in the lead, and van Gisbergen sat patiently just under a second behind.

And, as yesterday, it was Kiwi who made the couple stop when he passed the mandatory service on the 15th lap.

Waters reacted predictably to the next round, and again he recovered right in front of van Gisbergen.

This time, however, van Gisbergen was able to use his warm tires to his advantage, taking advantage of an impressively late dive to slip under Waters in turn 3.

After there was no stopping the leader of the series ahead, van Gisbergen led the break with Waters through the last leg.

The final advantage was 5.2 seconds, while van Gisbergen has an advantage of 244 points in the series.

“It was a great race,” van Gisbergen said. “Cam was fast again, but our guys did a great job at the pit stop and it put pressure on him.

“[We] won the boxing race and then I made a good move on the Cam. The car was awesome. I just kept pushing.

“He got us yesterday, but I got him back today.”

David Reynolds came home third after a long run and making a few key passes in the second leg.

Running fourth in the first leg, Reynolds did not stop until the 22nd lap. Originally the undercut left him fifth behind Will Brown and Chaz Mosterthowever, the captured Grove Mustang did not take long to make its way to third place.

Lee Holdsworth also worked out an incision in Grove’s sister car, the veteran didn’t stop until the 24th lap.

He jumped out behind the likes Andre HeimgartnerMostert and Brown, but managed to overcome them all when he finished fourth.

In the last lap of the race, Mastert defeated Brown when the Erebus driver struggled to bring his ancient tire, installed during a stop on the 5th lap, to the finish line.

However, Brown managed to get stuck in sixth place, despite the fact that Heimgartner was on the bumper right off the flag.

James Courtney and Mark Winterbottom were eighth and ninth Anton de Pasquale closed the top 10.

The final race of the Winton SuperSprint will take place at 15:35 local time.
