The Mahindra Bolero may be one of the toughest cars on Indian roads, but even this powerful SUV has its limitations against the full fury and force of nature. Three young men found this out the hard way when they managed to escape by trying to cross a crowded canal in a heavy downpour. But while the three passengers managed to make it to safety, the poor Bolero was not so lucky.

According to media reports, the incident took place in the Madhya Pradesh province of Ujjain, in a village called Narayana Baloda Khal. The driver of the Bolero reportedly tried to cross the spillway but soon realized that it was a futile attempt. Although the Bolero is known for its solid nature, the force of the water rushing through it meant that it was impossible to walk through.

The water was so strong that even reversing was impossible. As soon as this was realized, an attempt was made to save the car using ropes, but this too proved unsuccessful. Yes, while the driver and passengers managed to get out of the “Bolero”, the SUV itself was swept away with great force.

The incident once again highlights the need to be extra careful when driving in rainy conditions and especially when encountering water spilling on the roads. While some SUVs and many 4×4 options can indeed handle some very challenging conditions and terrain, it’s best not to test a vehicle’s absolute limits by throwing it against the full force of nature.
