As the election season approaches, Reddit is giving users a chance to maintain their peace of mind by allowing them to opt out of political ads.

The announcement was made in a post on r/redditsecurity, where an admin revealed that the platform has updated its “Sensitive Advertising Categories” list to include politics and activism. Users can now filter out these types of ads using the existing ad filtering tools, as noted in the latest Reddit Changelog.

In addition to politics and activism, users can now filter ads related to alcohol, dating, gambling, weight loss, pregnancy and parenting, as well as a newly added category for religion and spirituality.

To block political ads on desktop, visit reddit.com and click on your profile icon in the top-right corner. Then, click the gear icon next to “Settings.” Go to the “Preferences” tab, scroll to the bottom, and find the “Limit ads in selected categories” option. Click it to reveal a list of toggles, select the categories you wish to limit, and then click “Done.”

On the Reddit app for iOS or Android, tap your profile picture in the top-right corner and select the gear icon next to “Settings.” Under “Account Settings,” click your username, wait for the next page to load, and scroll down to “Sensitive Advertising Categories.” Toggle the categories you want to filter, and your settings will be updated automatically.

This new feature comes on the heels of another announcement requiring politicians to conduct an AMA (Ask Me Anything) with the Reddit community before posting political ads. Additionally, any AI-generated content in political ads must now be clearly labeled
