This all-new electric ADV is the DSR/X from Zero Motorcycles. (Zero motorcycles/)

Big news in Zero motorcycles‘ Announcing the 2023 model year is the introduction of the 2023 Zero DSR/X, the highest torque adventure motorcycle yet.

The all-new e-ADV is powered by the latest Z-Force 75-10X engine, which puts out an insane 166 lb.-ft. torque. That (claimed) torque figure is currently the highest of any dirt-capable Zero, and more than big ADVs like BMW 1250 rupeesDucati Multistrada V4and Harley-Davidson Pan America, which claim 105, 92, and 94 lb.-ft. respectively. To drive the point home even more, Zero’s SR/S sport bike delivers 140 lb-ft; even Lightning bolt LS-218 the electric superbike claims 168. Instant torque is one of the best features of an electric motorcycle, and this Zero has it in abundance.

In addition to the insane torque, the Z-Force 75-10X engine produces a claimed 100 hp. The bike is capable of a top speed of 112 miles per hour.

The DSR/X rides on 19-inch and 17-inch Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tires, soaking up rough terrain with a fully adjustable 47mm Showa Big Piston Separate Function fork and a reservoir shock absorber. Both offer 7.5 inches of travel. The 544-pound machine is stopped by twin J.Juan front calipers that grip 320mm discs, while a rear single floating caliper grips a 265mm disc. Electronic aids include Off-Road mode, Vehicle Hold Control and Bosch’s Advanced MSC (Motorcycle Stability Control) with Combined Braking (also known as eCBS, which optimizes brake force distribution).

The Showa shock can be adjusted without tools.

On the subject: The best electric motorcycles for adults

The DSR/X is one of three bikes in the Zero lineup to feature the Cypher III+ operating system, which includes features such as faster charging, higher battery capacity and a new parking mode (reverse low speed and slide function). The bike also connects to the Zero app, which in turn allows riders to customize the bike’s performance, check charge status, control rollover alerts, and display navigation on the dashboard (a free beta version of the Zero app is currently available on the DSR/X).

“Our owners and advocates have been asking for a full-size ADV bike from Zero for years,” said Zero Motorcycles CTO Abe Askenazi. “We have invested more than 100,000 engineering hours in developing a motorcycle that lives up to both our customers’ expectations and Zero’s mission to redefine the riding experience.” (Zero motorcycles/)

Now the big question about an electric bike: How much range? Zero claims its 17.3kWh Z-Force battery provides up to 180 miles in the city and 85 miles on the highway. If that’s not enough for your adventures, the optional Power Tank upgrade can increase charging capacity to 21kWh. Adding a Power Tank takes up space in the standard tank storage compartment, but for those who live with uncontrolled range, it’s an easy sacrifice.

A storage compartment replaces the traditional fuel tank.

There are several places to store personal items, the aforementioned lockable tank, a right-hand compartment (secured with two T25 Torx screws, a Torx key included in the tool kit), and a small storage area under the seat.

There is also storage space under the right panel.

A knob-adjustable windshield and Scorpion Trail II tires are standard, but if you’re looking to dress up the DSR/X with adventure-oriented accessories, there’s saddlebags, a skid plate, spoked wheels, a touring windshield, top and side covers, Pirelli Scorpion Rally tires and more are available on the Zero accessories page.

I love the tool free windshield adjustment.
