Bosch begins production of a new electric powertrain designed for light commercial vehicles, including vans and medium-sized trucks.

The drive unit consists of a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a built-in inverter. The unit weighs about 80 kilograms, has a maximum power of 129 kW, a continuous power of 100 kW and a peak torque of 430 Nm. Bosch says the inverter has an efficiency level of 97%.

The new unit is manufactured at the Bosch plant in Hildesheim, Germany. The company says the unit will be installed in an 8.5-ton Daimler truck.

“Compared to its predecessors, the new unit delivers an even higher power and torque density, as well as being even lighter and more compact,” says Bosch board member Dr. Markus Hein.
