The 2023 BMW 3.0 CSL will be unveiled next month, but before that happens, it was watched over doing some hot laps at the Nürburgring.

The German automaker is preparing a car in the warehouse BMW Celebrations continue for the 50th anniversary of the M. It has been teased several times in recent months and will be based on the standard M4. However, it will feature a host of significant upgrades and is believed to be limited to just 50 units worldwide.

This is a specific prototype was filmed by Automotive YouTuber Mike during a recent Industry Pool session at Green Hell. The engineer behind the wheel wasn’t afraid to push the car all the way, and on several occasions the rear of the car briefly lost traction as it struggled to put all its power to the ground.

Given that the 3.0 CSL will offer improved performance over the standard M4 Competition, it seems inevitable that it will be a bit quicker on the racetrack. BMW is likely to make some changes to the car’s exhaust system, but the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine still sounds pretty muffled in this clip.

As well as equipping the car with a host of custom body panels, it is understood that changes will be made to the engine, which will bring power up to around the 560bhp mark. Reports indicate that BMW will sell 3.0 CSL exclusively in rear-wheel drive configuration. A six-speed manual transmission is also believed to be the only option that will be available to buyers.

Perhaps the most surprising thing about the 3.0 CSL will be its price, if recent speculation is to be believed. Sources believe the car could cost €750,000 ($730,000), meaning it could cost buyers 10 times more than the standard M4.
