We’ve updated this article with live images of the NamX concept from its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on October 17-23, 2022. Check out our full coverage of the show here.

Franco-Moroccan startup NAMX has unveiled a concept version of its first car. The hydrogen powered SUV is described as a ‘HUV’ with exclusive new Pininfarina technology and design.

Therefore, the serial version of the car will not appear on the market for several years until 2025. However, NAMX says it will initially be offered in two trims.

The first entry-level model will be rear-wheel drive and have a capacity of 296 hp. (224 kW/300 hp). It should accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and go on to a top speed of 200 km/h.

The GTH version, meanwhile, will get four-wheel drive and 542 hp. (410 kW/550 hp). It will be able to accelerate to 250 km/h and accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Prices for these models will range from around €65,000 to €95,000 ($68,410 to $99,984 at current exchange rates), neither of which sound particularly revolutionary.

The real party trick of the HUV is deeper inside the vehicle where fuel storage is concerned. Patented NAMX technology combines a fixed hydrogen tank and six additional removable pods to be used as additional tanks. The startup promises that this will give the car a range of up to 497 miles (800 km). It also intends to create a distribution network for its removable capsules.

These tanks were the main task of Pininfarina, which first had to make sure that their use was integrated into the design of the car. However, apart from that, Pininfarina reveals that it worked with NAMX to ensure that the HUV is a “next-generation” vehicle that doesn’t lose touch with the past.

“Admiring science fiction, [NAMX Co-founder] Thomas de Lussac chose to give the shape of the vehicle the avant-garde of the coming era,” the company wrote in a release. “His taste for American design from the ’50s and ’60s, his commitment to”Muscle Car“, inspired him to create a car that defies today’s sleek, traditional electric car designs.”

Along with the help of Pininfarina, the automotive startup is managed by a group of veterans of the automotive industry with experience at companies such as Matra, Renault and others. Development of the HUV is set to begin in 2023, and the physical debut of the HUV will take place on Paris Motor Show this fall.
